: of or relating to a culture of Peru, Bolivia, and contiguous areas from about 100 B.C. to A.D. 900 characterized by fine stone masonry and carving in stone, polychrome pottery, textiles (as tapestry) and bronze ornaments, weapons, and tools; also : of the stiff angular but dignified style of design found on these artifacts having as central motif an anthropomorphized demon figure often carrying a throwing-stick
